Motive Commerce Search alternative

The Search Sight alternative to Motive Commerce Search

Motive Commerce Search is the small-business sister product of enterprise search vendor Empathy.co, built in Spain with a genuinely distinctive angle: privacy-first, cookieless search whose AI runs on self-hosted infrastructure using open-source models. Every feature ships on every plan, including a conversational 'AI Mode'. It's a young product with a small footprint, and its plans meter by monthly search volume with no entry tier below €39.

    Why these differences matter

    Privacy & data handling

Motive's privacy story is genuine and well-executed: cookieless by design, no personal-data profiles, and AI inference on self-hosted GPUs running open-source models rather than Big Tech APIs. If that's your deciding criterion, Motive delivers it. It's worth knowing the same fundamentals apply to Search Sight: search runs without shopper cookies, data lives on EU/UK infrastructure, and merchant data is never sold or used to train third-party models. The difference is that Motive leads its marketing with privacy; Search Sight treats it as table stakes and leads with what your search data can do for you.

    Pricing & the metering question

The two products' tiers are strikingly similar on paper — €39/€65/€129 vs £39/£65/£129, even sharing tier names — but they work differently underneath. Motive meters searches (10,000 to 50,000 per month by tier), so a strong sales period or a traffic spike counts against your allowance. Search Sight's tiers are flat with unlimited searches, and there's a £7 Starter tier for small stores that Motive has no answer to. If your traffic is spiky or growing, metering is the detail to scrutinise.

    Analytics depth

Motive's analytics are presented well — including real-time views and a conversational interface for interrogating your data — but its conversion tracking currently measures add-to-cart events rather than completed purchases. That means it can tell you a search led to a cart, but not reliably what revenue a search term actually produced. Search Sight tracks the full journey (search → click → add-to-cart → purchase with order value), so its dashboard and weekly digest report actual revenue per search term — the number that justifies the subscription at renewal time.

    AI search capabilities

Motive ships a conversational 'AI Mode' on every plan — shoppers can ask natural-language questions and get guided results — which is genuinely ahead of most SMB-priced competitors, running on open-source models. Search Sight's search is AI-driven and typo-tolerant with instant results, and its AI investment currently points at the merchant side: turning search analytics into suggested fixes and insights. Which philosophy wins depends on your store: conversational search shines for exploratory, high-consideration catalogues; fast, forgiving instant search converts better for stores where shoppers know roughly what they want.

    Maturity & footprint

Motive is young in market with a very small public footprint — single-digit review counts on the Shopify App Store — which isn't a criticism of the product so much as a factor in how much real-world validation exists, and public records include at least one billing dispute over its metered model. Search Sight is also a young product, so the honest comparison is feature-for-feature and trial-for-trial: both offer generous free trials (30 days for Motive, 14 for Search Sight), and running both against your actual catalogue is the fastest way to a confident decision.

Who Motive Commerce Search is best for

Stores for whom the privacy positioning is the deciding factor and whose search volume sits comfortably inside a metered tier.

Who Search Sight is best for

Stores that want the same privacy-respecting fundamentals plus purchase-level revenue attribution, a £7 entry tier, and pricing that doesn't meter searches.

Why stores switch to Search Sight

    • £7/mo entry tier — Motive starts at €39
    • No search metering: flat tiers however busy your month is
    • Purchase-level conversion and revenue tracking, not just add-to-cart
    • Search Doctor turns your search data into one-click fixes
“Search Sight has made finding products on our store much easier. Results appear almost instantly, and customers can still find the right items even when they make a spelling mistake. It feels like a significant upgrade from the standard WooCommerce search.”
